The Rhode Island State Bird, at least in our backyard.

Frozen silence this morning, along with your choice of park bench.

We bought a pair of Nikon binoculars last week from BassPro. So, going forward, my better half and partner in crime will man the binoculars during our outdoor excursions. The idea is that Donna will confirm “what’s out there,” so that I can fit my camera with the 100-400mm lens and capture the moment. You didn’t see it unless you capture it. I’m sure many a bird watcher would disagree with that assertion.

We decided to try Plant City last night, which is one of those healthy restaurants in Providence. While Donna thoroughly enjoyed her plant-based quesadilla, I chewed on lawn clippings stuffed into a burrito. Thankfully, this meat eater had the opportunity afterwards to get outside and play with his camera.
Through a good friend I learned about a place called Gooseberry Island in Westport, MA. My first thought was that it would be hours away, a significant distance for a Rhode Islander like me. Not so said the map, and so off we went for a 45-minute trip to this new-to-us location. What we found was an island – connected only by a sliver of road – to mainland Westport. It’s a terrific spot, one that we plan to visit again. Just need to plan something where we catch the sunrise or sunset – and maybe a Snowy Owl or two.
For the dogs and me Brickyard Pond in Barrington is our home away from home.

For me there’s nothing more authentic and telling than architecture that has literally stood the test of time. I used one of my favorite lenses, a 55mm (1.8), using a wide open aperture for a shallow depth of field.
