
Okay, so I’m getting a little ahead of myself, but this is one of the most unusual visitors we’ve had to date. It goes by the name of Rose-breasted Grosbeak; and by gros I presume “large,” and so the big, broad-beaked bird is aptly named. This thing could crack a walnut without trying.

Got the shot…whew.

I was just rummaging through some old articles I wrote. I did this story when I was a reporter for the Chariho Times, back in 1993. I had one chance to pull off the photo. I was at the end of the run way with a film camera, so I was ecstatic after it was developed. The airport, which is the size of a postage stamp, is known by the locals as Richmond International Airport.
