Okay, so I’m getting a little ahead of myself, but this is one of the most unusual visitors we’ve had to date. It goes by the name of Rose-breasted Grosbeak; and by gros I presume “large,” and so the big, broad-beaked bird is aptly named. This thing could crack a walnut without trying.

I was just rummaging through some old articles I wrote. I did this story when I was a reporter for the Chariho Times, back in 1993. I had one chance to pull off the photo. I was at the end of the run way with a film camera, so I was ecstatic after it was developed. The airport, which is the size of a postage stamp, is known by the locals as Richmond International Airport.

A good photographer can make something out of nothing. I’m not a good photographer, and so this photo isn’t much of anything. But it’s my blog, and so I present to you a dying pumpkin.

We went tubing over the weekend, and so did Nigel – no big surprise there. Nigel waited patiently for his turn, and it took little prompting for him to join me for the last go-around. Despite his obvious excitement before the ride, he appeared quite bored during his turn.

What else is there to do when you can’t sleep on a Saturday morning? Yup. That’s right. You drag yourself out of bed at 5:30am, you drive to the pier in Narragansett, and you take photos…lot’s of them, so that hopefully one will come out pretty decent.

This year’s 4th of July Party at the Vermette’s featured a Creative Diving Contest. The idea was to dive off the diving board and into the pool without getting wet. Note – the creative ideas committee has been sacked. Shown above is one of the myriad failed attempts.

…and there goes Eric. It was the first day of summer yesterday, and what better way to mark the occasion.
