Last shot at the birds.

We packed up the beach house yesterday, but not before I drove to the marina for one last shot of the Osprey. The second shot is a Turkey Vulture, which was riding the winds behind the beach house. I let the kids play in the backyard so as to lure the great beast closer for a shot. They actually eat road kill. Next year I’ll have the kids play dead.

Go back…go back. Gotta get this one.

I like this shot. The lighting seems to be perfect. A very lucky shot. I’m sure I couldn’t do it again if my life depended on it. Sigh.

We were on our way back from Fort Weatherill when we passed this scene, so we had to pull a Uey (U-turn) and come back around for the shot. The kids just groaned. Why should they have to suffer through dad’s hobby. “Zip it, kids, and go back to your Nintendo DS’s.” 🙂

Messing with shutter speeds

I took this shot a couple weekends ago with a slower shutter speed – half a second. The idea was to get the moving water to blur slightly, while keeping all else in sharp focus. It seemed to work, thanks to a tripod. It came out okay, not great, just okay. The location was Hunt’s Mill in East Providence, RI.

A second try at moving water.

Okay, this might look like a repeat from two posts ago, but I went back to Hunt’s Mill, this time with a tripod. You’ll notice that the leaves are a little more in focus, and there’s better lighting. The tripod was a suggestion made by members of a photography club I recently joined at work. There’s definitely some improvement, but it still needs work. I may go back…again.
