Phone call overheard by Donna…
Eric: Hello, I’d like to speak with Ian Hassell.
(Ian’s mom gets Ian)
Ian: Who is this?
Eric: This is Eric Long, your best friend since we were in pre-school.
Ian: Oh, hi Eric.
After this semi-formal introduction, the two went on to discuss strategy for playing Star Wars on the Nintendo DS; Eric had the phone set to “speaker.” Apparently the call went on for an hour.
Note: these two third-graders see each other every day in class.
Tollgate vs Mount Hope
We spent this past Sunday afternoon at Mitchell’s game – against the Mount Hope Huskies. The Titans lost 24 to 7, but it was still exciting to watch Mitchell at quarterback. That kid has an arm.

Soccer Time!
I’m an assistant coach this year for Eric’s team, so Donna took the photo of him in goal; I was pre-occupied with a gaggle of rugrats. But I’ll take credit for the shot of Christy scrambling for the ball.
On a more somber note, the games began after a moment of silence in remembrance of those who died on September 11, 2001 – nine years ago today.
My first go at HDR
A High Dynamic Range (HDR) photo is simply one that was shot three times, using three different levels of exposure. These are then mushed together, resulting in a pretty cool effect. The following photo represents my first attempt at an HDR photo. Not a bad start. This shot is of the George Washington Bridge (Route 195) taken from the East Providence side. The Photomatix watermark is still visible due to this software still being in trial mode.
Patriots Training Camp
Donna and I spent about 20 minutes today watching the Patriots go through drills during their Training Camp. We saw a few big names: Brady, Moss, Welker, Light, Jarvis-Green, but we didn’t spot Belichick. Anyhow, I squeezed off a few photos. I posted some of the better ones here on SmugMug.
Shooting at Brickyard Pond
I was off to Brickyard Pond today, with camera, and with no particular subject matter in mind – that is, until a dragonfly stopped by. A drip of sap hanging over a spider web also caught my attention.
Smoke and mirrors…
So I took this photo hoping to capture the reflection of a tree above this very still water. The reflection proved so effective to the point where there’s no discernible reflection. Note to self: throw a small pebble in the water – so it looks more like water.
Eric – Ice Road Trucker
We watched “Ice Road Truckers” the other night (not sure why), but it seemed to inspire Eric, age 8, to start his own trucking company, courtesy of Legos. I thought the shiny hard wood floor, with a little imagination, produced the “ice” effect.
