With this scenic pond just down the road now, it’s easy pickings for some good photo opportunities. From left to right: a Black-capped Chickadee borrows an old woodpecker’s nest, a dog and his boy try their luck at the bridge that divides the pond, and a lily pad flower almost ready to bloom.
A female Baltimore Oriole gets her shot at the new feeder. Jelly seems to be more popular than the fresh fruit. Good to have choices.
Our favorite little spring-time bird – the yellow warbler, singing away at Trustom Pond in South Kingstown, RI. I took several photos of this bird, but this capture was finally free of branches and twigs going across his face, etc. A nice, clean shot of him belting out a tune.
There may be safety in numbers, but crowds can attract unintended visitors to the backyard.

…when a Dark eyed Junco (aka SnowBird) hunkers down in the cold. Luckily our suet traps in the backyard outnumber the birds…sort of.
Thankfully, a squirrel cage is no match for a Red-bellied Woodpecker.
A new feeder, loaded with sunflower seed, was a big – and immediate – hit this morning with my big, bright friend here.
