Was it really Christy?

It was Christy’s first outdoor game today playing on her competitive soccer team. It was also her first go at playing offense. At one point I was fiddling with my camera, and then looked up just in time to see a shot go past the other team’s goalie. Who exactly made the shot was unclear to me, although Christy was in the vicinity. Could it be? Was it her? She wasn’t celebrating, so I didn’t dwell on it. But at the half, I walked over to Donna, and her smile confirmed what I was hoping. She really did it. I was (am) one proud dad.

Make this quick, dad.

Christy is all for the camera, whereas Eric is not. I was lucky to get this shot off, right before Eric bolted. I must say these two clean up nicely, and just in time for their cousin Jared’s wedding. It was a long, long, looooong drive to North Carolina and back. (Insert city name here), we agreed, is the armpit of the devil. “No offense, devil.”

Nine down, Nine to go.

“I can’t believe they’re going to turn nine next week,” Donna said the other day. To use an old cliche: where did the time go? In another nine years Eric and Christy will be 18 years old. EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD! Hard to believe that only nine years ago we were looking at a sonogram. Sigh. Happy Birthday Eric and Christy.

Soccer Time!

I’m an assistant coach this year for Eric’s team, so Donna took the photo of him in goal;  I was pre-occupied with a gaggle of rugrats. But I’ll take credit for the shot of Christy scrambling for the ball.

On a more somber note, the games began after a moment of silence in remembrance of those who died on September 11, 2001 – nine years ago today.

Littlest Transformers

Christy received her mail-order caterpillars just over a week ago. And now? Now they’re Painted Lady Butterflies. Christy tells me she named each one, beginning with Christy Junior, of course. The caterpillars stayed in their shipping jar for a few days, until we could see them forming their chrysalises. Mom then transferred them to their mesh enclosure, where the same critters are now testing their wings.

Strike a pose!

Once again, the kids just had to strike their overly ostentatious trademark pose upon seeing the camera. At least this time the silhouette added an interesting effect; maybe American Idol could use this in its opening credits next season. Anyhow, this was taken at Haines Park, one of several nearby stops when we just need to get out of the house.
