This Tree won’t Leave

So there I am, straightening out the backyard on a Sunday morning, putting soccer balls away and stuff like that. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I see that cleaning up the yard has now taken on a whole new meaning. The tree, above, lost one very big branch, and it landed right on the fence. Luckily there was minimal damage. Eric, age 7, stayed with me the whole time, dragging branches away, while I “went to town” with an axe and hand saw. The photo was taken with my new iPhone.

Game 2 for Christy

Christy played today, while Eric’s team had the day off. She played hard again, which was pretty good considering the heat. We reviewed positions after the game, because at times Christy appeared confused, as did most of the other kids.

We made sure Nigel had a good dip in Jones’ Pond before taking him with us.

Soccer 2009 Kicked off today

Both Eric and Christy played well. Christy scored at least two goals for the Metrostars, while Eric played VERY aggressive defense for “Germany.” As promised, I took them to Fantasy Land for their efforts. I didn’t take any photos, because the rain was a bit much. In fact, the 8am Soccer Parade had to be canceled. Christy plays again tomorrow, so I’m hoping to get some shots.

Last shot at the birds.

We packed up the beach house yesterday, but not before I drove to the marina for one last shot of the Osprey. The second shot is a Turkey Vulture, which was riding the winds behind the beach house. I let the kids play in the backyard so as to lure the great beast closer for a shot. They actually eat road kill. Next year I’ll have the kids play dead.

Surf’s Up – courtesy of Hurricance Bill

Hundreds of surfers, including some that drove all the way from New York, enjoyed the remnants of Hurricane Bill, which left its mark yesterday on the shores of Point Judith. It took us 90 minutes to get back to the beach house, because of traffic. Amusing my children to pass the time while stuck in traffic included taunting dogs in adjacent cars. More photos.
